Happy March 1st to you all, can you believe we’re approaching Spring already? It’s almost 80 degrees here today and the Lupines are blooming. I love this time of year.
This week as I have been coming down from my Quilt Con “high” I got a little quilt basted, quilted and bound! I love that about small quilts- nearly instant gratification!
Before I left for Austin, I had finished the quilt top. So I basted it pretty quickly one morning (only a 37 inch square) and decided to play with some free motion stitches.
I know, I didn’t get very creative with my free motion foot. But I was seconds away from going back to my walking foot and not stepping out of my comfortable quilting “box”. So while I’m not loving how the quilting lines turned out, I’m glad I got some practice; hopefully this brings me one step closer to trying some more interesting designs….. baby steps!
This was a fun little quilt to work on. I used my Scrappy Strings HST method and then just played around with placement before finally deciding on this pinwheel variation.
I have so much of this Japanese import home dec weight fabric in this super sweet print that I thought it the perfect backing for this project. I think this could make a lovely little baby/toddler playmat.
I decided to machine bind this one for extra strength and durability as it will likely need lots of washings and dryings! I had such fun with this little project and found it a great way to use up lots of fun scraps. As you can see, my little Miss N is now officially tall enough to help mamma out with small quilt holding duties. She was very proud of herself- hehehe:-)
I’m linking up with Crazy Mom Quilts Finish it Up Friday!
This quilt is now listed in my shop!
Happy weekend!

Kudos to you, Karen for stepping out of your comfort zone. The texture from the lines looks great! And yes, small quilts are instantly gratifying! Enjoy the beautiful weather:)
So bright and cheerful!
I love what you’re doing Karen! Keep it up. You have a great eye for design.
i love the texture that kind of quilting added!! i am drawn to each block where my eyes travel the lines!! some time ago, i wondered if that would be another way to handle straight line quilting…. i’ll have to give it a shot! it turned out great!
Very sweet quilt. I’m learning to do machine quilting too. Your quilting looks really nice.
Love your quilt and how it’s put together. I’m going on a quilt retreat and think this may be just the thing to work on. Thanks for the inspiration!
